Victor A. Colotla's Celebration of Life

Remarks by Manuel

Good morning, everybody. First, I want to thank my dear sister-in-law Vivienne Xóchitl, and my dear Ian and Eileen, as well as their families for the opportunity to participate in the Celebration of Life tribute for Victor.

Doctor Víctor Adolfo Colotla Espinosa was our very dear brother. I am Manuel, the oldest of the 9 children of Don Adolfo Colotla Cornejo and Doña Josefina Espinosa de Colotla. I want to share with you, on behalf of my seven siblings: Elisa, Lucina, Catalina, Juan, Carlos, Guadalupe and Josefina a bit about my brother's life in our family when we were children.

Our parents were very loving to all of us, my father was always a true example of honesty, courage, work and a sense of responsibility, and my mother of love and a sense of duty.

[photo] One of our great joys was on Sundays when they took us to the Chapultepec Park Zoo and we rode the little kiddie train. Victor was always a very calm child who had fun and enjoyed many of those walks.

At home, he was very tidy with his things and his room, he helped our mother cleaning the house and was always ready to buy what she needed from the store near our house. I remember once he prepared dinner for all the siblings, and he was very proud to be able to do so.

My brother Víctor Adolfo and I were together in Primary and Secondary School, even in the same grade and the same classroom; so I witnessed that he was always an excellent student. [picture] At that time diplomas were not awarded as now, but one of his first recognitions was in a public speaking contest in primary school, where he won First Place. The teachers and the principal were very moved by his speech, and awarded him a book.

Víctor Adolfo was always joking with everyone, just like my dad (he was a lot like him). One night when our parents were not at home, the siblings were watching a horror movie on TV with the lights off when Victor sneaked in silently and scared us all, which made us laugh so hard that we didn't even finish watching the movie.

Books were his passion. [photo] You can see in this photo that even when he was very young (maybe four years old) he already had a book in his hands. As a teenager, he always had a book on hand, always reading. One time he was sitting at the table, eating with his book in hand and without losing sight of his reading, he stretched out his hand looking for his glass but we had taken it away. He kept stretching his arm further and further, without finding what he was looking for until we burst out laughing and he had to put down his book to see what had happened.

Victor always cared a lot for our parents and for all his siblings. He was always in touch with everyone despite being physically far away. Being far away did not prevent him from showing us his affection and always helping us out.

He and his beloved wife Vivienne Xóchitl, as well as their beloved children, were always wonderful to all of us, they opened the doors of their home to their nephews and the family who came to visit them in Vancouver and welcomed them with their heart and soul.

Our brother was an example for all of us because of his love for his family, because of his discipline, his dedication to his profession and his sense of responsibility.

All this is reflected in the beautiful and wonderful family that he created, as well as the admiration of his many colleagues. But what he adored most in his life were his wife, his children, and his very much beloved grandchildren.

Dear brother, we will always be grateful with our hearts for the love, support, advice, help and example that you always gave us (despite the distance). We will miss your company, as well as your jokes and your sense of humor. We will always remember you.

WE WILL ALWAYS LOVE YOU WITH ALL OUR SOUL.

Your siblings, siblings-in-law, nieces and nephews, and the whole family.
